Are you looking for a new job and the prospect of doing a job interview just scares the living daylights out of you? Interview anxiety is normal – everyone has it, even experienced performers. But if it gets out of control, you don’t have a snowballs chance in hell to land that job.
It doesn’t even matter if you’re the right, better qualified candidate for the position. In order to get that job, you first need to “sell yourself” as the right candidate. And there are some people who are lousy at doing a job, but great at getting a job. Unfortunately, that means if you are great at doing a job and lousy at getting one, you’ll never have the chance to prove yourself.
What Job Interview Anxiety Feels Like
I know what job interview anxiety can feel like – wobbly knees, your heart pounding away in your chest, cold and sweaty palms, your voice may crack when you speak, and so on… it’s all part of the genetic programming we inherited from evolution that get’s triggered when we experience one of the fiercest emotions: fear.
Well meant, but ineffective advice:
Usual advice is:
just practice with a couple of mock interviews to gain confidence.
Prepare yourself for different questions.
Videotape yourself doing a mock interview and look at the video afterwards to get another perspective on your own presentation skills.
Research the company that you apply for and prepare yourself for questions like: “How much money do you want to earn?”.
Go to the site of the interview a couple of days beforehand and just check out the building to familiarize yourself with the place.
All this well-meant advice is nice and good – but it doesn’t really get to the point of job interview anxiety. That’s something different than just experiencing normal nervousness.
The High Price Of Job Interview Anxiety
Just imagine having to put up with a job that doesn’t pay you appropriate, a job that doesn’t match your qualifications and doesn’t excite you at all. Or getting no job at all, even though your skills and talents are much needed by an employer. Putting in the hours day in and day out. That is a very high price to pay for anxiety.
What You Get When You Conquer Job Interview Anxiety
If you could get over your job interview anxiety – what do you think your life would be like? When you could land that dream job. When you would get the salary that allows you to enjoy the lifestyle you deserve? When family members and spouses would feel proud when they speak about your job. When you’d actually ENJOY going to work, because there’s an exciting day with great colleagues ahead?
To many this sounds so much like a fairy tale – they have given up hope to get a job like that. But there still are so many opportunities out there these days. Companies are in dire need of star-employees. Specially because of the massive layoffs. They now more than ever need people who are passionate and skilled for their jobs, but they won’t give you that position unless they’re convinced you COULD be that star.
A Proven Method That Works
Hypnosis can help you to get over your job interview anxiety. It’s not about feeling no fear – it’s about managing the fear your experience so that it actually fuels you with extra energy. That’s how the best performers do it. And that’s how you will do it too, once the subconscious behavior patterns are “installed” in you. Because it’s really not about how smart or eloquent you are. It’s about the subconscious strategies that get triggered in the interview situation. If the fear spurs you to mobilize all the mental resources available to you, you’ll excel at that interview. But if the fear just blocks access to those resources, you’re doomed to fail.
Don’t let this happen to you. You’ve read so far – that means you ARE serious about conquering your interview anxiety. Now it’s time to do the next step:
